Five problems for the moral consensus about sins

A number of Christian theologians and philosophers have been critical overly moralizing approaches to the doctrine sin, but nearly all thinkers maintain that moral fault is necessary or sufficient for sin obtain. Call this “Moral Consensus.” I begin by clarifying relevance impurities biblical cataloguing sins. then present four extensional problems Moral Consensus on based catalogue sins: (1) over-demandingness, (2) agential unfairness, (3) repugnance, (4) atrocity. Next, survey several partial solutions these problems, suggested recent philosophical literature. Then evaluate two largely unexplored solutions: (a) genuine dilemmas (b) defeasible sinfulness. argue creates more than it solves that, while well-motivated eases each above leaves many ordinances about morally misleading, creating (5) a pedagogical problem evil. conclude arguing places hefty explanatory burdens those who would appeal resolve discussed in paper. So may need consider radical separation fault.
